Brendan Barnes

My work is about re-capturing a sense of wonder, the sense of wonder present in childhood. The nature of western thought can be antagonistic towards notions of mystery which are at the heart of this experience of wonder. We are taught in school that the world is fixed and definable. These definitions teach us that we know and understand the world around us, which robs us of an experience of mystery. My art is about the process of unknowing the world around me in order to reclaim wonderment in my experience and mystery in my understanding.  I attempt to create systems which are not definable in order to reclaim the mystery which was lost through notions of definability.
